Security Guards

February 27, 1986

Los Angeles County's fastest growing industry--private security--has low minimum qualifications for becoming a security guard. The "average" pre-classroom training is 4 to 8 hours. And this is usually not by a trained teacher, but by a senior or supervising officer.

Local adult evening schools (high school and community colleges are offering more extensive courses by trained experienced teachers at very reasonable fees, usually $20 or less). More training for this responsible position should be made mandatory. Is less than a day enough?
