Hermosa Beach : Conference Costs Denied

February 27, 1986

In a continuing effort to cut extras from the budget, the City Council this week voted not to pay expenses for city employees and officials who want to attend a planning commission conference in San Diego or a retreat sponsored by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce.

The Planning Department had requested $1,160 for two planning commissioners and a city staff representative to attend the annual Planning Commission Institute March 12-14, and City Manager Gregory Meyer had requested $700 to cover registration costs for up to 14 employees at the annual chamber retreat.

The two requests appeared on the council's consent agenda, which includes items that are routinely approved, but they were removed for discussion by Councilman Gary Brutsch and Tony DeBellis.

Councilmen George Barks and John Cioffi opposed the council's decision, both saying the conferences were worth the expenditure.
