Thousand Oaks High upset Culver City, 2-1, Friday night in the quarterfinal round of the Boys Southern Section 4-A Division soccer playoffs at Lancer Stadium.

The victory advances Thousand Oaks (21-5-3) into the semifinal round Tuesday night against Simi Valley, 4-3 winners over Upland.

The Lancers controlled the game offensively, and kept Culver City all-CIF forward Danny Pena in check.

Paul McCully scored the game-winning goal early in the second half, bouncing a shot off Centaurs' goalie Jose Perez.

Forward Erik Maki scored on an assist from McCully to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead early in the first half.

Culver City (20-4-2), which was runner-up in the section playoffs last season, tied the score in the closing minutes of the first half on a goal by Armando Zapta.
