Little Tokyo Square Nears Opening in Early Spring : Project at 3rd and Alameda Sts. Will Include Entertainment Center, Shops and Restaurants

March 02, 1986

By early spring all of Little Tokyo Square will be open for business and pleasure. Signs already are up, and the words "Little Tokyo Square" now appear on this newest 200,000-square-foot complex at 3rd and Alameda streets.

The mall walkway will open soon with a new pedestrian entrance on 3rd Street, in addition to the Alameda Street entrance, which has been open since last September.

A feature of the square will be its entertainment center occupying the entire third level of the mall. Already in operation is the Little Tokyo Bowl with 40 computerized Brunswick lanes and a video game parlor adjacent to the Sugar Bowl Cafe and Aloha Lounge.

Phase 2 of the third level will add nine restaurants, video rental and tea shops, in addition to two movie theaters showing Japanese, as well as other Asian films.

Shops moving into the Little Tokyo Square include Asahi Shoten, Ayumi Jewelry, Kuragami Nurseries, Tokyo Bridal and Tuxedo Shop and the Tokai Bank, among others.

Food shops and restaurants will include Apple's Curry & Spaghetti, Boteju Teppan-Yaki, Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream, Mont Blanc Bakery, Restaurant Juraku and Yoshimoto restaurant and Ryoko Shun En Tea.

Validated parking will be available, and the facility will also be open later than most downtown shopping areas.
