Datametrics Bounces Back With Record Sales, Profit

March 04, 1986

Bouncing back from two unprofitable quarters, Datametrics, a leading maker of computer printers and plotters for the military, announced record sales and earnings for its first quarter ended Jan. 31.

The Chatsworth-based company reported sales for the quarter of $4.3 million, up 33% from the same quarter a year ago. Net income rose 327% to $442,532, or 13 cents per share.

Datametrics lost $1.3 million on sales of $13.3 million for the year ended Oct. 31, with most of the deficit coming in the last half of the year.

Garland S. White, Datametrics' president and chief executive, attributed the improved performance to the correction of its problems with the software it sells to purchasing agents. Datametrics last month announced an agreement with two venture capital firms that will give it $2.75 million in working capital. The move is designed to alleviate the company's longstanding financial problems.
