Redondo Beach : Propositions on June Ballot

March 06, 1986

The City Council voted to place five propositions on the ballot in June and to set March 20 as the last day residents can submit arguments to the city clerk for or against them.

Proposition 1 asks whether the City Charter should be amended to permit the council to appoint one of its members as mayor pro tem; Proposition 2 asks whether the charter should be amended to allow the council to meet twice a month rather than weekly; Proposition 3 asks voters to clarify the process for filling the city attorney, city clerk and city treasurer posts should a vacancy occur before the end of a term; Proposition 4 asks whether the charter should be amended to allow the council to make appointments to commissions and boards if the mayor fails to do so within 60 days of the expiration of a term, and Proposition 5 asks if a separate section of the charter should be amended to make it conform with Proposition 4.
