March 18, 1986

Heavily favored Shywing drove to the lead in midstretch and drew off late to a 2-length victory in the $64,550 Las Cienegas Handicap for older fillies and mares Monday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Laffit Pincay, the winner covered the 6 1/2 furlongs on a muddy main track in 1:18, earning $37,550 for her owners.

Reigning Countess, ridden by Gary Stevens, finished second three lengths in front of Her Royalty, ridden by Chris McCarron.

Frostie Shades, the only other starter in the field of four, broke down in the stretch after leading for the first half-mile.

Sent off the even-money choice, Shywing paid $4 and $3.20. Reigning Countess returned $4.60 to place. There was no show betting.
