The Women of the 80s Advisory Committee of Cerritos College Community Services has named a Woman of the Year for each of the eight cities in the Cerritos College district. They are: Iva Jones of Artesia, a volunteer worker; Thelma Puisys of Bellflower, a volunteer worker; Ruth Moore of Cerritos, a licensed vocational nurse active in alcoholism studies; Victoria L. Jenkins of Downey, the city's librarian; Margaret Vineyard of Hawaiian Gardens, active in the Chamber of Commerce; Jacqueline Rynerson of Lakewood, a councilwoman; Anna Martin of La Mirada, active in civic affairs; and Peg Nelson of Norwalk, councilwoman and volunteer worker. They will be honored during an all-day conference Saturday at Cerritos College.
George Medak and Roger Reyburn have been appointed to the Long Beach Transit board of directors by the Long Beach City Council. Medak is vice president of Long Beach Financial Services. Reyburn is division manager for General Telephone in Long Beach.
Bell High School seniors Michael Boulay and Ralph Diaz, both 17, were given commendations by Los Angeles Unified School District board member Larry Gonzalez last week at a special school assembly.
The boys helped save a 50-year-old woman in her burning home in Maywood.
Perry N. Barit, a member of the Institute of Architects, has been appointed to the Cerritos Planning Commission. Barit's term runs through July. He was nominated by Mayor Diana Needham to fill the unexpired term of Ann Joynt, who had served on the commission since 1978. Barit is the owner of Perry N. Barit, AIA, and Associates, an architectural firm, and Manbar Group Inc., a development company.
