Monrovia : Parking Law Put to a Vote

March 27, 1986

The Monrovia City Council has voted unanimously to hold a special election in July to decide the fate of a controversial overnight parking ordinance. The ordinance, which will not be enforced until after the election, has incensed some residents because they would no longer be able to use their garages for other purposes and because they would have to go to the police station to obtain temporary street parking permits.

The ordinance was enacted last month after a three-month voluntary program failed to clear streets so sweeping could be accomplished more efficiently. Assistant City Manager Jeanne Kennedy said the special election date has not been set and that residents will be surveyed as to their specific objections before the wording on the ballot is decided.
