Harold L. George, a retired Army Air Corps lieutenant general and twice mayor of Beverly Hills, has died in Laguna Hills. He was 93.
Born in Somerville, Mass., George headed the Air Corps' transport command during World War II. After leaving the military in 1947, he became an aircraft industry executive.
He moved to Beverly Hills in 1948, where he was elected to the City Council in 1952 and served as mayor from 1954-55 and 1959-60.
Upon leaving the council, George established the Clinton H. Anderson Award--named after a former city police chief--to honor outstanding police officers.
