'Nightline' Will Question Marcos : Marcos Set For 'nightline'

April 03, 1986|MORGAN GENDEL

The first one-on-one TV interview with deposed Philippines leader Ferdinand Marcos since he left that country will air Friday night in a special one-hour segment of ABC's "Night-line." Ted Koppel will conduct the interview, which will be videotaped at Marcos' home in Honolulu tonight.

"Nightline" is seen at 11:30 p.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42.

Koppel's interview beats by three days a similar session between "Good Morning America's" David Hartman and Marcos, which will be taped Sunday for broadcast on that ABC show the following morning.

The "Nightline" staff has been attempting to get the Marcos interview since "two days after he got to Hawaii," according to the show's press representative, Laura Wessner. Marcos and his entourage fled the Philippines on Feb. 25 for Guam and shortly thereafter moved to Hawaii.

ABC Washington correspondent Charles Gibson, a frequent substitute host on "Nightline," will sit in Koppel's chair tonight while Koppel is in Hawaii.
