The Clarke family of Torrance is well represented on the CIF All-Southern Section soccer teams. Kevin Clarke, a midfielder for Bishop Montgomery, made first-team 4-A, while his mother, Nancy, who coaches the Bishop Montgomery girls team, was named 3-A coach of the year.
Two South Bay girls earned major awards on the 4-A team: Dianne Manore of South Torrance was named co-offensive player of the year, and Torrance junior Julie Jamile was named co-defensive player of the year. Bishop Montgomery's Kit Schwartzman was named 3-A offensive player of the year.
The boys 4-A team also includes Ray Fernandez of Torrance, John Siskowic of Bishop Montgomery and Bruce Weisenberg of Rolling Hills on first team; Shawn Feiber of Torrance, Dana Kier of South Torrance and Marcus Wittmann of Palos Verdes on second team; and Dan Berthel of Bishop Montgomery, Joe Flanagan of West Torrance, Felix Guillen of Rolling Hills and Gerado Yepez of Hawthorne on third team.
Robert Harris of Simi Valley was named offensive player of the year and teammate John Spach was the top defensive player.
