Two Caltech faculty members were among 20 American scientists awarded the National Medal of Science by President Ronald Reagan in a ceremony at the White House. Dr. Harry B. Gray, a chemistry professor at Caltech since 1965 and a resident of Pasadena, was honored for "pioneering research in bio-inorganic chemistry and photochemistry," work that involves the conversion of sunlight into other useful forms of energy. La Canada Flintridge resident Dr. Hans W. Liepmann, professor of aeronautics emeritus who has been on the Caltech faculty since 1939, was honored for "theoretical and experimental advances in fluid mechanics that have laid the groundwork for high-speed flight, space reentry vehicles and more efficient combustion engines."
Tom Mone has been elected president of the Visiting Nurses Assn. of Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley. Mone is assistant administrator of management systems at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center.
James C. Lester, president of Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, will resign April 1 to assume the presidency of Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance. James C. Leming, vice president of corporate finance at Queen of the Valley Hospital, will become acting president.
Karl Patz has been elected president of the San Dimas High School Parent Faculty Assn. Dee Dee Reedy has been elected vice president.
Mark N. Mehlen of Pomona has been elected president of the Medical Administrators Assn. of Los Angeles.
