Top Local Teams Play Cup Games

April 06, 1986

One of the best three-game programs of the current season will be presented by the Greater Los Angeles Soccer League Sunday at Daniels Field in San Pedro when four of the league's top teams take part in U.S. Open Cup and California State Cup action.

The program will open at noon with a quarterfinal match for the State Cup featuring the GLASL champion Hollywood Stars playing host to Jalisco, champion of the Central Coast League of Santa Barbara.

Both teams won fourth-round games last week. Hollywood beat De Anza, 4-1, in Ontario, while Jalisco won, 6-5, on penalty kicks over Paramount.

Sunday's feature event at 2 p.m. will find GLASL leaders Inter-America and the San Pedro Yugoslavs clashing in the local semifinals of the U.S. National Open Cup tournament. In their only meeting in GLASL competition this season, Inter-America defeated San Pedro, 2-1. The winner will meet the winner of the other semifinal between Long Beach and Santa Ana.

The winner of the Open Cup playoffs in Southern California will be traveling to Seattle to compete in Region 4 playoffs scheduled for May 30 and 31.
