Sailing in Scandinavia

April 06, 1986

My husband and I thought your readers should know that we followed a recommendation last summer from Jerry Hulse's Travel Tips, and we found the vacation suggestion to be everything, and more, that the tip said it would be. Both of us had always wanted to learn to sail, yet we wanted to visit Scandinavia too. We found the perfect solution for our goals in Gunnar's Sailing School of Ljungskile, Sweden. For one happy week last August we sailed around the islands off the west coast of Sweden, learning how to sail and enjoying the scenery and the company of people from around the world.

Although food wasn't included in the price, everything else was: licensed sailing instruction, lodging for seven nights, and island sightseeing. The price is quite a bargain at $175 a person for the week. Ljungskile is only a 45-minute car or train ride north of Goteborg, making it easy to get there and convenient for sightseeing elsewhere in Scandinavia. If readers are interested, they can contact Gunnar's Sailing School at Frovallavagen 5, S-45900 Ljungskile, Sweden. Thanks for another great suggestion.
