MANILA — Explosions and fire ripped through a firecracker factory in a Manila suburb, killing 11 people and seriously injuring 10 others, police said Sunday.
Police Patrolman Eduardo Yabut said the blasts that rocked the factory Saturday in the Manila suburb of Bocaue were so powerful that one body was blown 500 yards from the site.
The explosions set off a fire that spread to three adjoining huts stockpiled with pyrotechnic wares, triggering more explosions.
Yabut said the mangled bodies of 10 people were found after the fire was out. One of the 11 injured died later in a hospital.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
