Lawyer, Husband Arrested in Alleged Bar Exam Fraud

April 15, 1986

Laura Beth Lamb, 29, a staff attorney for the federal Securities and Exchange Commission in Los Angeles, has been arrested on felony charges that she posed as her husband to take and pass the State Bar of California examination in his name last summer.

The husband, Morgan Anthony Lamb, 33, who also was arrested, had previously failed the difficult three-day exam. After she passed the test in his name, he went into private practice, Deputy Dist. Atty. Kirk Newkirk said Monday. This is the first felony prosecution of its kind in California history, he said.

The Lambs, who were arrested Friday, could not be reached for comment. They were freed on $10,000 bail each, pending arraignment May 2 in Los Angeles Municipal Court. A spokesman for the securities commission declined comment.
