WASHINGTON — A House panel investigating the lobbying activities of Michael K. Deaver said Monday that it wants the Commerce Department to explain why it gave a series of economic briefings to the former White House aide.
The House Energy and Commerce oversight and investigation subcommittee, headed by Rep. John D. Dingell (D-Mich.), received information that Deaver was briefed last year on a wide range of economic subjects, said Michael F. Barrett Jr., the panel's chief counsel.
