Fullerton : June Likely for Start of Work on Campus Dorm

April 23, 1986|Kevin L. Carter

Construction of a dormitory for Cal State Fullerton students will probably begin in June, a university official said.

William J. Reeves, the university's assistant vice president for student services, said that construction of the four-story complex would not be scheduled until after May 2, when the sale of a $6.5-million bond issue ends. "The sale of bonds has to be completed before construction is begun," Reeves said.

There will be $966,000 in state funds available in addition to the bond money, Reeves said.

The dorms, with six students living in each three-bedroom apartment, will house approximately 400 students. There will be a parking structure built near the facility, which will be north of the campus' University Center, Reeves said.

Reeves said he was not sure how students would be selected for vacancies in the dorm, which is scheduled to open in September, 1987.

Although the university has 23,000 students and is growing, it is one of only two campuses in the 19-campus California State University system without dormitories.
