Lomita : School Secession Petitions

May 01, 1986

Petitions calling for Lomita's secession from the Los Angeles Unified School District are being circulated by the Committee to Reorganize Lomita's Schools, a group of residents, city officials and community leaders.

The group, which began the campaign last November, is trying to obtain by June 1 about 5,000 signatures, or more than 50% of Lomita's 8,670 registered voters, said Robert Hargrave, chairman.

If residents submit petitions signed by at least 25% of registered voters, the county Committee on School District Organization will hold a public hearing on the secession request within 60 days.
