Italian Prime Minister Bettino Craxi will leave office next spring to resume control of his Socialist Party, a party official was quoted as saying. Craxi has been prime minister for more than 2 1/2 years, a postwar record. Assistant Secretary Claudio Martelli told party officials that Craxi will switch jobs at the start of the 1988 parliamentary election campaign. The prime minster submitted his resignation after disagreements within Italy's governing coalition over the Achille Lauro hijacking, but the resignation was rejected.
