The Ceramic Tile & Marble Institute of San Diego has announced five winners in the 1986 Design Excellence Awards Program for Creative Usage of Ceramic Tile, Marble & Thin Brick.
They include Jerde Partnership Inc., the Grand Award winner for its work on Horton Plaza. Awards for Excellence were given to Buss Silvers Hughes Associates for the Torrey Pines Science Business Park, and to architect David Raphael Singer for the Improvisation/Comedy Club & Restaurant.
Scarlett Taylor & Associates and architect Gary Allen were given an Award of Merit for the Seaview Corporate Centre, and another Award of Merit was received by Kim Keywan Etherton of Etherton Interior Design for the Kahn residence.
Forty firms submitted slides of projects for review by a jury that included members of the design and building communities.
The institute is a local trade association that serves as a resource center for architects, building designers, officials, interior designers, specification writers and other members of the building team.
