BRIEFLY

A Santa Clara firm will sell picture-telephones.

May 05, 1986

Luma Telecom said its freeze-frame technology makes its visual phone more affordable and more compact than full-motion videophones of the type first premiered by AT&T in 1964. The Lumaphone, which weighs 8 pounds and is about the size of many telephone answering machines, sends and receives black-and-white "snapshots." It will cost about $1,500.
