CIF Head to Be Named

The Southern Section CIF Council is expected to name its new commissioner today. Finalists are Dean Crowley, a Southern Section commissioner; Margaret Davis, a state CIF associate commissioner, and Stan Thomas, an administrator with the Tustin Unified School District.

Whittier Swimming Stars

Six Whittier High School senior swimmers, who lettered as freshmen, went through four years of competition without losing a Whitmont League meet. They are Ramona Linderoth, Christie Borak, Laurie Hohne, Stacey Albanese, Stacey Munatones and Amy Hall. Poets Win Lacrosse Title

Mike Pelly's goal with five seconds to play Sunday gave Whittier College a 12-11 victory over UC Santa Barbara and the Western Lacrosse League championship. The Poets will play at the Air Force Academy Saturday with the winner being declared the unofficial best team in the West. Pete Manarino Honored

Pete Manarino of Cal State Long Beach has been named softball Coach of the Year in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. Two 49ers, pitcher Sandy Winchester and center fielder Cissy Rothfuss, were named to the all-league first team.
