Community College Layoffs

May 09, 1986

After years devoted to loving and teaching our students at Los Angeles City College, I am demoralized to see a board of trustees callously dismissing so many of our best, our youngest, our brightest.

Garvin is clearly the only trustee who can see the real world of the Los Angeles Community College District. Do not the remaining six trustees see the havoc brought by closing valuable occupational programs with jobs awaiting graduates?

Is there any sense to sending well prepared psychology professors off to teach math or humanities, areas that reflect neither their solid preparation nor a personal enthusiasm of the heart?
