Community College Layoffs

May 09, 1986

Garvin's article about L.A. Community Colleges did not get to the heart of the problem. A look at any of our college catalogues shows that leisure time activities like dance, physical education, and art classes form many of the offerings.

Does he really expect me to care about layoffs or financial problems when the colleges can turn an easy profit if they simply charged the fair market prices for these programs?

Our community college output in terms of degrees and vocational certificates is too small a part of the whole, and recreation seekers are getting a free ride.
