If David Stockman has done nothing more, he has given us a glimpse behind the Washington scene, at great personal risk to his own future. He has again shown clearly that those in power are just ordinary men with an extraordinary quest for power. He, unlike the reviewer, knows and has dealt with these men personally on a daily basis. If Stockman has learned anything, he has found that no political solution exists.
As to Stockman's lack of criticism of "unfettered capitalism," one should question why he should join the already swollen ranks of critics, clearly including your reviewer. There has never been "unfettered capitalism" since the government's main function has always been to favor one group at the expense of others.
