How much would the county have been willing and able to spend on Ramirez if he were an ill, homeless, destitute, law-abiding citizen instead of an alleged mass torturer and murderer? Hardly the millions that officials eagerly commit for his care and feeding now, I'll wager. Something seems terribly skewed and totally irrational with the values and priorities of a society that will permit, and even encourage with massive publicity, such a mockery of justice and a travesty of reason.
