Regulators voted to decontrol natural gas prices.

The plan, proposed by Energy Secretary John S. Herrington, would set the price ceiling for natural gas above market value, rendering it almost meaningless. About 40% of natural gas, which supplies nearly a quarter of the nation's energy, is subject to "just and reasonable" price ceilings set by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and its predecessors since 1938.
