It seems The Times has once again displayed its complete lack of understanding regarding the issue of illegal immigration in its editorial (May 20), "Borderline Ethics."
Numerous attempts have been made by The Times to dictate the job description of Western Regional Immigration Commissioner Harold Ezell. Ezell is an appointed member of the present Administration whose task is to protect the legal , taxpaying residents of the Western United States against the illegal aliens, drugs and terrorism flowing across our border.
Your assertion that "immigration should have no role in a partisan political campaign" illustrates your failure to recognize that illegal immigration is a bipartisan issue. Foremost, it is an issue of national security.
Mike Antonovich has chosen to focus on this issue of national security in an attempt to let potential voters know his position on immigration reform, not, as you put it, to "exploit the border situation for a partisan piece of propaganda."
