Toxics Signatures Collected

June 05, 1986

The Campaign for Economic Democracy, a Santa Monica-based political organization headed by 44th District Assemblyman Tom Hayden, has collected more than 70,000 signatures in support of a toxics enforcement initiative proposed for the November ballot.

Jack Nicholl, executive director of the group, said that about 20,000 of the signatures were gathered on the Westside. Statewide, proponents collected about 659,000 signatures in support of the plan.

The Safe Drinking Water and Toxics Enforcement Act will go before the voters if the majority of the signatures are verified by election officials.
