Jack Nicklaus Jr. advanced in his quest for the only major golfing title that eluded his father. Young Nicklaus survived the opening day of match play in the British Amateur at Lytham St. Annes, England.

Nicklaus made it to the round of 32 with a 5-and-4 victory over Laurent Lassalle of France.
