Fresh Pears Put Nutrition on the Breakfast Table

June 12, 1986

Fresh pears are naturals for brightening breakfasts. Pear halves baked until tender with honey and coconut need only a topping of yogurt to become a healthful eye-opener. Or dice pears and combine with raisins and brown sugar to spoon over hot cereal.

Pear Breakfast Pudding layers glazed pears with raisins and oatmeal. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake for a delicious way to start the day.

4 pears

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup raisins

2 cups cooked oatmeal

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Core and slice pears. Saute in butter until tender. Add brown sugar and cook over low heat, stirring until pears are glazed.

Place alternate layers of pears, raisins and oatmeal in buttered baking dish, sprinkling each layer with cinnamon. Bake at 350 degrees 20 minutes. Makes 6 servings.
