June 15, 1986

San Diego State's lightweight eight boat finished second to Princeton in the National Rowing Championships Saturday in Cincinnati.

The Aztecs, who won the Pacific Coast Championship last month, finished the 2,000-meter course in 6 minutes 19.1 seconds. Princeton, winner of the Eastern Sprints, won the race in 6:10. Yale, which defeated SDSU's lightweights earlier this season in the San Diego Crew regatta, finished third in 6:19.4.

In an exhibition race for heavyweight four boats, SDSU was second to the University of Cincinnati. The Aztecs' time of 7:01.4 was nearly four seconds slower than Cincinnati's. SDSU lost to Cincinnati earlier in the day in one of the heats.

In the varsity eights, the University of Wisconsin won both the men's and women's national championships. The Badgers' men defeated Brown by nearly two seconds and the women beat Radcliffe by three seconds.
