Milner Blood Drive Collects 115 Units

June 19, 1986

More than 130 people, mostly city employees, gathered at the Glendale City Hall on Monday and donated 115 units of blood during a one-day blood drive held for the wife of City Councilman Jerold Milner.

Milner's wife, Patsy, recently required 24 units of blood because of kidney failure brought on partly by chemotherapy and radiation treatments. She suffers from leukemia.

The drive was sponsored by the American Red Cross in conjunction with City Hall officials. Gil Patlan, Red Cross field representative, said the drive was a "good example of the importance of supplying blood to the community and for people that we love and care for."

Many of the people were first-time donors and gave blood especially for the Patsy Milner, Patlan said.

Milner said he was deeply touched by the blood drive for his wife.

"I'm very, very grateful for the generosity of the people literally giving parts of themselves . . . ," he said. "Their generosity is very impressive to me and to my wife."
