Streets to Be Closed for Festival

June 19, 1986

Parking will be prohibited in parts of West Hollywood and some streets will be closed during this weekend's Gay Pride Festival, which will include a parade on Sunday, the county Sheriff's Department says.

The department will have a SigAlert in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday to handle traffic and congestion.

Parade participants will assemble on Santa Monica Boulevard between Crescent Heights Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, and on Crescent Heights between Fountain Avenue and Romaine Street. Those areas will be closed to traffic at 7 a.m.

The parade route along Santa Monica Boulevard from Crescent Heights to Robertson Boulevard will be closed to traffic at 11:30 a.m. The parade will begin about noon.

RTD buses will use alternative routes during the day.

Spectators are encouraged to park east of La Cienega Boulevard and use the shuttle bus provided by the parade organizers, Christopher Street West.

Holloway Drive will be closed to all traffic except St. Victor's parishioners from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Christopher Street West will issue passes for people attending the 12:10 service at St. Victor's. The passes are available at the church, 8634 Holloway Drive.

The parade will disband on Santa Monica Boulevard between Robertson Boulevard and Doheny Drive, with some units disbanding on Robertson, La Peer Drive and Almont Drive. Parking will be prohibited on those streets from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parking will be prohibited along the entire parade route between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

For the two-day gay pride festival at Pacific Design Center, San Vicente Boulevard will be closed between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
