PEBBLE BEACH — USC teammates Mike Blewett and Terrence Miskell Friday played their way into today's 36-hole final of the 75th California Amateur Golf Championship.

Blewett, 21, a senior from Burlingame, needed a tap-in par putt on the second extra hole of a playoff to defeat Carl Wagner, of Napa, in a semifinal match Friday. In the other semifinal match, Miskell, 19, a sophomore from Salinas, eliminated Eric Woods of Corona del Mar, 2-up.

"If my brain can handle it, it should be a good match," said Blewett, who had a 60-foot birdie putt on the par-5 second playoff hole rest three inches behind the cup.

"Right now I'm exhausted, not physically but mentally. It's been a grind all week," Blewett said.

Blewett was two over par for the overtime match with Wagner, 22, who graduated this month from Stanford. He shot even par in his 2-and-1 quarterfinal victory in the morning against Scott Almquist, 21, of Santa Ana.

Miskell shot a four-over-par 76 in his win over Woods, 22, a UC Irvine student. In the quarterfinals, Miskell was one over par in eliminating Pat Burke, of West Covina, 3 and 2.

Another USC teammate, Sam Randolph of Santa Barbara, won the tournament last year but turned pro after competing in the U.S. Open earlier this month.
