Tainted Water Found at Dump

July 12, 1986

Low levels of three contaminants were found in ground water at the Casmalia Resources hazardous waste disposal site near Santa Maria, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report said Friday.

But federal officials added that additional tests are needed to determine whether the contaminants pose a threat to human health.

"The low levels possibly indicate that they are not a threat," said Terry Wilson, an EPA spokesman.

The source of the contaminants has not been determined, officials said.
