Digby Deal?

July 13, 1986|William Chitwood

Contrary to popular misconception, Gary Franklin's old job at KCBS is still open. "CBS Morning News" book critic Digby Diehl has been filling in only temporarily. But a station spokeswoman tells us he's got a "one in three or better chance" of getting it permanently--and a decision is coming "soon."

Said Diehl: "We have not made a deal yet."

Two others rumored up for the job apparently aren't. Bill Harris said his "At the Movies" co-hosting job with Rex Reed (replacing Siskbert) is firm. And the L.A. Daily News' Frank Swertlow, who's been doing a weekly media critic's stint at KCBS, said, "I'm not interested in Franklin's old job."
