The Cascade Volcanoes stretch from Canada to California. The lava-domed Mount St. Helens, a stratovolcano, is a particularly lethal type. "Mount St. Helens' 1980 eruptions are child's play by comparison" with another stratovolcano, Krakatau, which erupted in 1883 with 70 times the magma volume of Mount St. Helens.
