Motor Scooter Driver, 17, Killed When He Hits Car at Intersection in Anaheim

July 20, 1986

A 17-year-old motor scooter driver was killed and his passenger seriously injured when the scooter apparently ran a red light and crashed into the side of a moving car, Anaheim police said Saturday.

A coroner's official identified the driver as Samuel Richard Primero III of Riverside. His passenger, Richard Porter, 18, also of Riverside, was reported in guarded condition at UCI Medical Center.

According to Anaheim police, the two were riding on a 1986 Honda Helix westbound on Cerritos Avenue at Brookhurst Street about 7:10 p.m. Friday when they struck a 1985 Toyota Camry.

Officer Jerry King said witnesses reported that the driver of the Toyota, southbound on Brookhurst Street, had a green light when he entered the intersection, and was struck by the motor scooter.

Neither the motor scooter driver nor his passenger was wearing a helmet, King said.

The driver of the car was not injured.
