Directory Of Recyclers

July 20, 1986

Centers for recycled newspapers, aluminum cans and glass containers are plentiful in the area. Some centers also take corrugated cartons, other grades of paper and metal, waste oil, plastic bottles, car batteries, telephone books and magazines.

Prices may vary week to week and center to center. Price quotes can be obtained by calling the numbers below, which are in the 818 area code unless otherwise noted. "Donation only" denotes centers that do not pay for recycled materials.

In addition to the recycling centers listed here, reverse vending machines that buy aluminum cans have been placed in parking lots at some area supermarkets.

Moreover, California Glass Recycling Corp., a glass manufacturers' trade group, is in the process of installing igloo-like glass recycling receptacles at Ralphs markets throughout the Southland, including at stores in Burbank, Pacoima, North Hollywood, Van Nuys, Encino, Granada Hills, Canoga Park and Woodland Hills. There will be no payment for the glass, but the group says it will donate $20 for each ton collected to organizations such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
