N. Y. Bars LaRouche Backers From Races

July 30, 1986|Associated Press

ALBANY, N.Y. — Supporters of radical politician Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr. were barred Tuesday from seeking the Democratic nominations for governor, lieutenant governor and U.S. senator from New York.

Steven LaFever, spokesman for the state Board of Elections, said the three LaRouche candidates will appeal the ruling by Election Commissioner Donald Rettaliata. A court hearing on the appeal was set for Friday.

Rettaliata ruled that the joint nominating petitions for the three candidates were invalid because they failed to list on their cover sheets the number of signatures collected for each candidate.
