Arcadia's Continuation High School has been renamed Huntington High School in an effort to improve the image and reputation of what is often regarded as a negative alternative to a regular high school, school officials say.
The school has 103 students who have been unable to adjust socially or academically at Arcadia High School, which has 2,300 students, said Supt. Stephen Goldstone.
Students and staff recommended the name change to the school board because it has widespread recognition and because of the school's proximity to Huntington Drive, he said.
The board already had approved moving the school from a portable building to a former elementary school, another effort to upgrade the image.
