MEXICO CITY — A small plane crashed on a major downtown thoroughfare, sideswiping a building, damaging five cars and injuring at least 10 people, officials said today.

The Cessna 310 twin-engine aircraft crashed on Lazaro Cardenas Avenue, one of the city's biggest downtown streets, at about 1:30 p.m. Carmen Reyes, a social worker for the Red Cross, said 10 injured people were admitted to the organization's hospital. She said they included nine adults and a 1-year-old girl.
