Poet, translator and author Clayton Eshleman will give a poetry reading titled "Recent Poems and Some Translations of Antonin Artaud and Aime Cesaire" at 8 tonight at the Newport Harbor Art Museum.
Eshleman's reading is part of a series held in conjunction with an exhibition, "The Interpretive Link: Abstract Surrealism Into Abstract Expressionism," at the museum through Sept. 14.
In addition to reading poems and translations, Eshleman will draw connections from the ways several poets have used surrealist techniques.
Eshleman received the National Book Award in Translation for "Cesar Vallejo: The Complete Posthumous Poetry" (with Jose Rubia Barcia), published in 1974, and he was twice a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award--for "Aime Cesaire: The Collected Poetry" and "Hades in Manganese." He has also been the recipient of several National Endowment for the Arts fellowships.
Admission to his reading is $3. For further information, call (714) 759-1122.
