August 03, 1986

Bolivian anti-narcotics police, backed by U.S. helicopters, raided and seized two huge cocaine laboratories, one of which was capable of producing up to two tons of cocaine hydrochloride powder a week, the Bolivian Interior Ministry said. One of the complexes located by the Mamore River, 550 miles north of La Paz, the capital, included 22 buildings, among them structures housing electrical generators and machines to press and dry coca leaves, the raw material for the drug. The ministry did not specify the production capacity of the second Laboratory, located 320 miles east of the capital.
