The State

August 13, 1986

Nearly a quarter of Sacramento County's more than 800 sheriff's deputies called in sick with the "green flu" on the fifth day of a sickout held to protest a contract dispute over wages. The county has offered deputies a pay increase of 2.6%, but deputies have indicated they want at least twice that much. Deputies have been working without a contract for nearly six weeks.
