The USC Friends of Fine Arts plan a "Jewel Gala" Nov. 7 at the Beverly Hilton to honor Fred MacMurray. Mrs. Happy I. Franklin is chairman assisted by June Haver MacMurray . . .

The UCLA Center for the Performing Arts and Bullocks Wilshire are co-hosting a double preview--the UCLA Center's 1986-'87 dance season and a champagne reception to view the 1986 fall collection from Anne Klein. Center director Pebbles Wadsworth will do the welcomes at the luncheon Wednesday on Bullocks Wilshire's second level . . .

The National Art Assn. hosts luncheon Sept. 18 at Perino's with fashions from Jaeger, Internatinal of Beverly Hills. Jeanne Johnson will preside . . .

Good news: The Los Angeles Music Center Opera is over its goal of 4,500 charter subscriptions, and the box office is no longer accepting subscription orders; seats for single performances are available. The season begins with the new production of Verdi's "Otello" on Oct. 7, 10 and 12 with Placido Domingo, directed by Goetz Friedrich and conducted by Lawrence Foster.
