Pete Yoder, 46, who helped build Anaheim Esperanza High School's football program into one of Southern California's best, resigned as coach, five days before the Aztecs are scheduled to begin practice, and will become director of student activities at the school. He will be replaced as coach by Gary Meek, who has been an assistant at the school for nine years.

In 11 years under Yorder, Esperanza had a 99-34-4 record, won one Southern Section championship--the Central Conference in 1979--made four championship game appearances and eight semifinal appearances, won four league titles and reached the playoffs every year.
